Youth

GWHC currently has teams that compete in the AHA youth grade (under 18), this operates independently from College Sport's school competitions, offering additional opportunities for young players.

Teams practise once a week, with games played on Friday evening and Sunday morning at venues across Auckland.

Club games are played at different times/days to school games so it is possible for players to be involved in both club and school competitions.

Youth players can participate in up to two AHA games per weekend, at GWHC we like to provide opportunities for those keen to challenge themselves to play up into the senior teams.

In 2024, GWHC entered teams in Premier Girls, Championship Girls, and Championship Boys divisions.

AHA Winter Youth Competition

Full details can be found on the AHA website

The season runs from the beginning of Term 2 until late August, with no play scheduled during the July school holidays, Matariki, or King's Birthday weekends.

Games are played on Friday nights and Sunday mornings at various locations across Auckland.

All trial and team registrations are managed through PlayHQ on our club website.

2025 Season

Trials & Pre-season training

Trials usually start late March – dates for 2025 are to be confirmed – please keep an eye on our calendar and social media for updates – or register below to get email updates.

In 2025 we anticipate having one team in each of the Premier youth girls, Championship girls and Championship boys grades. We are keen to grow our club and should we have enough interest would consider entering more teams*.

* GWHC requires a minimum of 12 players to register a team in the AHA winter competition *

Training

Training times & locations are finalised once the teams have been confirmed.

Turf availability continues to be a challenge for us but we try to keep consistent bookings where we can.  Note: Dio currently does not allow access to their turf during the school holidays.

Currently all our youth teams train on Monday evenings at Dio

Currently GWHC has teams in the Championship boys, championship girls and premier girls grades. We hope to grow the club to have teams competitive in all youth grades.

There is also an opportunity for our youth players to become involved in the Jump Umpire programme or as coaches of some of the junior teams.
